Students Coming From the Reform at the Secondary Level : What Should We Expect in the Social Science Program ?

The subject of this interview found under the heading “College students in 2010” deals with pedagogical renewal in secondary from the perspective of students who will be entering the Human science program in college. The article presents the pedagogical differences between the old and the new programs: topics discussed include content and competencies to be developed in secondary, concrete examples, learning and evaluation situations (LES), the question of lecturing, reading and writing skills and French language perfection. This article implies that the complex situations proposed in secondary could allow for the introduction of various disciplines from the collegial Human science program into secondary courses in secondary while, at the same time, enriching the students’ overall knowledge. With this in mind, college teachers will have to make changes to their practice, they will need to resort to increasingly complex learning situations and adopt strategies that are focused on induction rather than deduction. This presents an interesting challenge for diversifying pedagogical strategies.
