International Mobility in College : Stepping Out Into The World

Lemay, Anne-Marie

Based on a number of studies that she consulted, the author of this article presents the current situation with regard to student mobility in college establishments by examining the question of financing as well as the reasons why students currently seem infatuated with foreign experiences. Based on the works researched by the author, CEGEP students find themselves at an ideal time in their lives to attempt their first international experience. In addition to exploring the impact on students who participate in the type of mobility experiences offered in colleges, notably on their personal development, their openness to the world, their choice of studies and career as well as their interpersonal relationships and their commitment to society, the author identifies the obstacles met along the way as well as the measures and solutions used to remedy the situation, notably the institutionalisation of the international component of education and Cégep international.
