The Final Evaluation Grade for a Course in a Competency-Based Approach: the Pedagogical Stakes
This article discusses the weight attributed to evaluations at the end of a course, in a competency-based approach. From a measurement and evaluation standpoint, the author examines the many issues to take into account when assigning a grade to the student’s report card. He identifies the risks connected to certain evaluation practices and underscores the impact of evaluation practices on teaching and learning. Lastly, the article offers a solution to the complexity of competency assessment: A two-fold threshold of success.
