Developing Writing Skills in Philosophy 102
Louis Desmeules and Steve Dubois, philosophy teachers at the CÉGEP de Sherbrooke, together with Christiane Blaser from the Université de Sherbrooke’s education department, describe a strategy aimed at helping students develop their writing skills. Based on thought-provoking, “socially relevant” philosophical questions (Bizier), the composition topics used with this approach promote support for students in all phases of the writing process, from the comprehension of instructions to text revision, including the sequence of formative and summative evaluations. Student reaction to the project, provided via feedback sheets, was very positive.
