Developing a Reference Model for Supporting Students
This article focuses on the development and implementation of a reference model for student support in all programs of study at Cégep de Sherbrooke. The author describes the approach taken by the team in charge of creating the support model, the goal being to develop basic guidelines in support of all programs of study, which explicitly define the various components and their functional connections. The reference model developed specifies the elements with which the programs of study must comply, the decisions that belong to the latter, the people who must make them, and the framework in which they must be taken. In describing the various aspects which were taken into account, as well as the definitions on which they were based and factors favourable to implementing this type of management model, the author mentions certain positive effects observed since its recent implementation. One such effect is the need for a clearer definition and better understanding of the role of the person responsible for the support, as well as a revamping of interventions to be prioritized, a more structured support, more targeted objectives for support plans that are easier to measure and a more spontaneous solicitation of educational advisors by those in charge of providing support.
