A Compulsory Stage in the Planning of Competency Assessment (Part 1)
This article is an adaptation of the first part of a text submitted to the AQPC Symposium proceedings (Actes du colloque) in 2004 by Mr. Jacques Tardif. In it, he identifies some requirements for evaluating competencies and provides a sample evaluation using a descriptive scale developed by the ministère de l'éducation de Québec for the competency “Writing varied texts” and spans the whole primary level of education. The second part of the article will introduce two descriptive scales developed for colleges that clarify the nature and characteristics of progressive and final development markers in the context of evaluating competencies, and an example that illustrates these markers while reviewing a nursing competency. This second part will be featured in the next issue of the magazine. This article supports the view that there is a need to use progressive and final development markers in the evaluation of all competencies.
The Centre de documentation collégiale (CDC) offers an extensive collection of documents on college-level education and on education in general, produced by professionals in leading facilities and organizations.
