Competing to Develop a Critical Mind
In the 2012 winter semester, Béatriz Mediavilla, a film-studies teacher at the CÉGEP de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue, incorporated participation in Quebec’s college cinema awards into her course on critical discourse in film. The use of such an approach meant that students produced films and acted as critics, in the same way as professionals might do. Collaboration in Radio Canada’s local cultural program, as well as with a local newspaper, reflected the true scope of this experiment, which, inter alia, allowed students to examine a cinematographic work in an in-depth, relevant way.
The Centre de documentation collégiale (CDC) offers an extensive collection of documents on college-level education and on education in general, produced by professionals in leading facilities and organizations.
