Quality Assurance in Education: Understanding What Lies Ahead
In accordance with its mandate regarding the institutions that make up the Québec college network, the Commission d’évaluation de l’enseignement collégial has adopted a new approach for examining the quality-assurance and evaluation mechanisms of each college. But why has the CEEC changed one of its functional paradigms? How does the strategy change benefit society? What aspects will henceforth be subject to evaluation, and what criteria will be used to do so? How does the CEEC intend to deal with the colleges’ diverse evaluation systems? What will be involved in implementing such systems, and how will this be done given the current budget cuts? In this interview, Céline Durand, President of the Commission, talks to our Editor-in-Chief and answers these troubling questions. She also identifies the consequences and basic challenges related to the new direction taken by the CEEC, with a view to casting off the shroud of secrecy that, to some extent, still hangs over our community.
